Habitat for Humanity Gets Their Own New Home - (8.19.2009)

After 12 years in the same office, Habitat for Humanity is moving to a new location in Denver. The new space includes more meeting rooms and workspace for the many volunteers that make their work possible. The new, 17,000 square foot facility will accommodate growth as the organization continues to serve our community.

GE Johnson, MTech and several other contractors stepped up with donations and hard work to complete a successful project.

We hope they enjoy their new “home”!

Safety Program Recognized - (5.22.2009)

The ABC Rocky Mountain Safety Awards Banquet was held last night and MTech Group earned the STEP (Safety Training Evaluation Process) Platinum award for our excellent safety record in 2008.

The Platinum STEP award is given only to companies that received a Platinum or Gold STEP award in the previous two years. This ensures that only companies who are consistently safe receive this prestigious award. MTech is proud to be recognized for our continued effort in Safety.

In attendance were Thomas Dean, President, Angie Rubeck, HR Manager and Daren Kipp, MTech Safety Director, to accept the award on behalf of everyone at MTech.

Thank you and congratulations to all of the MTech employees and families for a safe year and many more to come.

MTech Adds LEED Accredited Professionals (3.31.09)

MTech is going green. As one of Colorado’s top true Design Build Mechanical Contractors we understand the importance of sustainability in today’s construction market. We have made the commitment to become experts of the USGBC LEED certification process. Our thorough understanding of the LEED rating system and our early involvement at the design level will help determine which credits may be achievable at the best value to the owner. Not only have we participated on 20+ LEED projects, but we recently added 8 more LEED Accredited Professionals to our staff.

80% of our Engineering Services Group are LEED Accredited Professionals.
76% of our Preconstruction Services Group are LEED Accredited Professionals.
We expect to add more LEED Accredited Professionals this fall!

Continue to watch as MTech adds to our expertise and technical knowledge.

2008 Ace Awards (11.30.08)

Each year AGC hosts the ACE Awards which recognizes Excellence in Construction. The ACE Award is highly regarded in our industry and this year a record number of entries were submitted and close to 700 people attended the awards ceremony.

MTech entered two projects for ACE Awards:

The New Sanctuary Building at Mile Hi Church in the Meeting a Challenge of a Difficult Project, and

The Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa in the Project of the Year over $10 million, Specialty Contractor.

The ACE Award ceremony was held Friday night and we are excited to announce that MTech took home the Silver Award for the New Sanctuary Building at Mile Hi Church!

The project of the year category held some tough competition and unfortunately, The Westin was not recognized on stage. While we would have liked the recognition, everyone at MTech knows what an amazing job was done by all involved on the project and we can be proud of everyone’s effort.

Wild Animal Sanctuary Volunteer Day (9.20.08)

MTech employees and their families participated in a work day at the Wild Animal Sanctuary near Keensburg, CO. They helped to put up over 100 24-foot tall fence posts that will be used to build another habitat area for animals. Each pole took 5-6 people to put into place and the small staff at the Sanctuary was happy to have the help.

Charity Ride Day 2008 (8.30.08)

MTech employees and clients headed out on the Colorado roads on their motorcycles. The reason? Charity… and a little bit of fun. Each of the riders contributed at least $20 and the name of their favorite charity to participate on the motorcycle tour. It was agreed that at the end of the day, a winner would be chosen and the money collected would be donated to the rider’s choice of charity.

Pete Volvo, an employee at the MTech fabrication shop, was named the winner. He chose to donate the $730 to the Ali Meyer Foundation through The Children’s Hospital, in memory of a young girl that was killed by a drunk driver.

The Rain Doesn’t Keep Our Employees from Having a Good Time (8.16.08)

It may have been raining on the day of our picnic this year, but there were still many families that came out to join in on the fun. We were lucky enough for the clouds to break overhead and stop raining for the few hours we were at Tony Grampsas Park in Golden, CO. Despite the colder than usual weather, everyone had a great time and enjoyed the face painter, henna tattoo artist, and caricature artist. Paul Dense was named Simon Says champion and Jordann Singer was the big winner sweeping all of the kid competitions!

Our Own Cajun Crawfish Boil (6.12.08)

The Service Group hosted a Cajun Crawfish Boil as a kick off to summer. Paul Thibodaux used his authentic Louisiana know-how to prepare the "bugs" for everyone. There were some brave 1st time crawfish eaters, some that were looking forward to having the treat again and a few that wouldn't even venture near the table! It seems that everyone enjoyed the day and we're looking forward to see which department will host the kick off to summer next year!

MTech Employees Spend Time Rebuilding Together (10.6.07)

Rebuilding Together is a non-profit organization that helps disabled and elderly homeowners make needed improvements to their homes. Twice a year the organization holds a Rebuilding Day where up to 30 homes are worked on by various volunteer groups.

MTech and Total Plumbing teamed together and took on a much larger project than we expected. In just over 3 days, thanks to the help of several volunteers and generous donations from our clients, we created an entirely new living environment for the homeowner and her sons. Our work focused on the kitchen, living room and bathroom of this small 2-bedroom house. We replaced the subfloors, tile and carpet in the 3 rooms, patched several holes in the walls and ceiling, new paint on the walls and ceilings, the bathroom got a new vanity, sink, toilet, bathtub surround, window and door, the kitchen got new cabinets, new sink, light fixtures, oven and more secure front and back doors.

When the homeowner saw our work she said we had turned her house into a “Martha Stewart house”, we will take that as a compliment.

WellTech, The New Wellness Program is Rolled Out (6.1.07)

Our Wellness Program is designed to promote healthier and happier employees at MTech. It gives individual employees an opportunity to find out their own personal health risks through on-site health screenings and then will offer advice for steps that can be taken to make adjustments for a healthier lifestyle.

The results have also been calculated to show the health of MTech employees as a whole. The results show trends seen among the employees, which gives MTech the opportunity to offer fun employee challenges and relevant resources to improve their health.

MTech Celebrates 5 Years in Business (4.29.07)

Time flies, it feels like only yesterday that we sent our incorporation papers to the state of Colorado. Today, we are celebrating our 5 year anniversary. We could not have become Colorado’s leading Design/Build Mechanical Contractor without the hard work and support of our employees and clients. We are proud of our successes so far, and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries in the years to come.

MTech Shares the Holiday Spirit (12.27.06)

MTech, once again, hosted our annual Giving Tree in the lobby of the Denver office. This year, employees purchased gifts for the Tennyson Center for Children and the Harmony Angels, who give gifts to residents of area nursing homes.

The Tennyson Center for Children is an organization that helps children and their families that are victims of abuse. They provide treatment, education and advocacy programs to help end abuse and neglect. Operation Santa 2006 was the most successful campaign they’ve had. Every child received something on their list, in addition to the classrooms and cottages receiving some needed supplies too.

Harmony Angels is a non-profit organization that helps children and seniors. Throughout the year, Harmony Angles has projects ranging from brining gifts to nursing homes on Mother’s and Father’s Day to collecting coats and clothing for needy children. This year’s Angel Trees for Happy Holidays collected 212 gifts for seniors in nursing homes, as well as 20 fruit baskets.

Thanks to the generosity of the MTech employees, many gifts were donated and we helped to make the holidays brighter for over 30 children and seniors.

Employee Picnic a Hit at the Rockies Game (8.26.06)

Despite the storm in the morning, the afternoon of our employee picnic turned out to be the perfect day to watch a baseball game. We started out in the Coors Field picnic pavilion where we had the opportunity to enjoy the company of our co-workers and families outside of the office. The food was hot, the drinks were cold and the kids enjoyed the face painting and jumping castle.

We got to our seats in time for the first pitch of the Rockies vs. the San Diego Padres. The day was a success, except for the final score… 5-2 Padres.

MTech BBQ Trailer Ready to Take Some Heat (7.14.06)

Thanks to the hard work of our fabrication facility, we have said goodbye to the old BBQ truck and are ready to present the new MTech BBQ Trailer. The 16 foot trailer features 2 propane tanks, 4 burners, a smoker, 20 gallon chili pot, stainless steel food preparation area and umbrellas to keep the cooks cool while in the hot sun!

It was tested with hamburgers and hot dogs, received two thumbs up, and is now ready to go. The MTech BBQ Trailer will be visiting jobsites and providing lunch throughout the Front Range. Watch for us to arrive on your jobsite!

Top Colorado Projects of 2005 (12.31.05)

We are proud to have three of our projects mentioned in Colorado Construction Magazine’s Top Colorado Projects of 2005.

The Montrose Memorial Hospital, which we completed with GE Johnson, ranked 6th among Health Care Facilities. The project included demolition of the existing care center located on the east side of the facility and construction of a new 91,000 square foot, four-story building with partial basement and a rooftop helipad.

The new addition of the Sonnenalp Resort in Vail, CO, ranked 6th among Colorado Resorts. We completed this 80,000 square foot addition with the Weitz Company. It included 41 new hotel rooms, retail space, luxury spa and underground parking.

Finally, the 80,000 square foot Northrop Grumman AUC-9 project ranked 3rd among top Office Building projects. We worked with Fransen Pittman on the expansion of an existing building that included a large computer room on the lower floor.

Clothing for Hurricane Katrina (10.5.05)

Some MTech employees volunteered their time at a local warehouse to organize clothing for Hurricane Katrina victims. The warehouse is filled with donated boxes of clothing, they spent 3.5 hours sorting through about 10 of those boxes.

MTech matched employee donations to the hurricane victims and raised a total of $3,400.
